Sigma University recently welcomed its 2024 batch of fresher’s with an engaging eight-day orientation program designed to foster connections and introduce students to campus life. The event featured a variety of activities that not only encouraged interaction among students but also provided insights into academic and extracurricular opportunities.
The orientation commenced with a motivational movie screening aimed at inspiring students about their purpose in higher education and the importance of diligence for future success. Each day was themed around different activities, including sports, team-building exercises, and indoor games, which facilitated a comfortable environment for students to bond with one another and with faculty members.
On the second day, students were introduced to campus facilities and activities, including hands-on demonstrations of advanced technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting. The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism hosted a guest lecture focused on the aviation industry, enriching students’ understanding of various career paths.
The third and fourth days were dedicated to sports and games, allowing students to participate in activities like carom, chess, gully cricket, and badminton. This not only promoted teamwork but also provided a break from academic pressures.
Midway through the orientation, students engaged in creative classroom activities, including decorating their spaces and participating in competitions. Notably, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology organized a debate on “Employment Trends in India,” enhancing students’ public speaking skills and critical thinking. Additionally, a cake decorating workshop offered by the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism allowed students to explore culinary arts.
The final days featured a range of engaging activities such as quizzes, brainstorming sessions, and competitions. A highlight was a culinary challenge where students created their own flavors of Maggi noodles, showcasing their creativity and taste.
To conclude the orientation, cultural activities were organized, including a Mehndi and Rangoli competition, a Gujarat Tourism quiz, and a village visit as part of the induction program. Students were also introduced to the Shaily Incubation and Startup Centre, which provides mentorship for innovative business ideas.
The orientation culminated on July 22, coinciding with the induction program, where seniors entertained the freshers with performances in dance, drama, and music, creating a vibrant atmosphere to kick off their college journey.
Overall, the orientation at Sigma University effectively set a positive tone for the incoming students, equipping them with the necessary tools and connections to thrive in their academic pursuits while fostering a sense of community and belonging.
