Dr. Shankar Mahadevan Takes Charge as MESC Chairman, Building on Ramesh Sippy’s  legacy

In a pivotal transition, the Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) welcomes Padma Shri Dr. Shankar Mahadevan as its new Chairman, following the impactful tenure of renowned filmmaker Padma Shri Ramesh Sippy. Now in its 12th year, MESC, under CEO Mohit Soni, advances its mission to shape India’s creative talent under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Dr. Shankar Mahadevan, an icon in Indian music, steps in with a focus on expanding MESC’s reach and empowering the next generation of creative professionals. “Leading MESC at this crucial time allows us to elevate India’s talent on the global stage,” he remarked.

Dr. Sandeep Marwah of Noida Film City joins as Vice Chairman, aiming to expand MESC’s impact, while Amit Behl, a performing arts veteran, assumes the role of Secretary. Oscar-winning sound designer Padma Shri Dr. Resul Pookutty takes on the role of Treasurer, concentrating on enhancing technical training and international partnerships.

The Governing Council includes distinguished members: Leena Jaisani, Rajesh Turakhia, Amit Behl, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Sushma Gaikwad, Padma Shri Dr. Resul Pookutty, Kiran Juneja Sippy, Dr. (Hon) Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, Tehzeeb Khurana, Rajan Shahi, Robin Bhatt, Ketki Pandit, Shibasish Sarkar, Sanjay Khimesera, Samit Garg, Easo Thampy, Alok Sanwal, Manvendra Shukul, Ratish Tagde, Hrishikesh Kannan, Mukesh Chhabra, Sabbas Joseph, Sudeep Chatterjee, Preeti Vyas, Biren Ghose, Ashish Kulkarni, and Mohit Soni.

Outgoing Chairman Ramesh Sippy expressed confidence in the new leadership: “I’m confident that Shankar Mahadevan and this remarkable team will elevate MESC’s legacy.”
